CHAPTER 2: CAPTURING ■

If you are capturing to a system drive or have drive filtering turned on, you

might not see any highlighted drives in the list. In that case, here’s what to do:

1. Click the Settings tab in your Project Window.

2. Open the Media Creation settings. Choose the Drive Filtering tab.

3. If you are capturing onto your system drive, deselect Filter Out System Drive. If

you are capturing on the same drive where your Free DV or Xpress Pro applica-

tion exists, deselect Filter Out Launch Drive.

4. Click OK and return to the Capture tool. The drives should all be available.

Choosing a Resolution

Here’s a good tip. If you are using Free DV, you have only one resolution choice: DV 25

411 OMF. Choose it and you’re done. If you are using Xpress Pro with Mojo, you

can choose (see Figure 2.39) between 1:1 uncompressed, DV 25, DV 50 (DVC Pro), or

14:1. For Xpress Pro without Mojo, you have the same choices, except there is no 1:1

uncompressed option. For these purposes, go ahead and choose DV 25.

Choosing Video and Audio Channels

Finally, select the audio and video channels to be digitized. Play back your tape and

look at the audio meters. If you have audio present in both Tracks 1 and 2, select

them. If there is only audio in one track, select it.

Now select the V track for video and the TC track for timecode. You’re all

ready to go!

Recording

You made all the selections, so you can capture. Click the red Capture button. Here is

what is supposed to happen:

1. The videotape cues up a few seconds before your Mark In point.

2. It begins playing back.

3. The light next to the Capture button flashes on and off.

4. The Capture stops after it reaches your Mark Out point.

5. A new clip appears in your bin.
