Exporting QuickTime
Before we discuss exporting frames and audio files, let’s get right to the most elaborate
kind of export: your sequence. Although exporting single frames is a relatively easy
process, exporting a sequence can be a bit more tasking. There are many formats and
options. Let’s start by taking a look at QuickTime, which you should have already
installed on your system.
QuickTime is a media playback system developed by Apple Computer. The
QuickTime Player has become quite a versatile tool for digital artists. If you haven’t
used it yet, you might be surprised at how much it can do. QuickTime Pro offers a lot
of other options that you wouldn’t normally have: more codecs, exporting capabilities,
and more (see Figure 6.16). And the best thing about QuickTime Pro is that it is
relatively inexpensive.
Two Types of QuickTime Movies
There are two different types of QuickTime files: QuickTime reference movie and
QuickTime movie.
QuickTime Reference Movie Exporting sequences as a QuickTime reference movie cre-
ates an alias file that references the media already on your system. The OMF files that
Xpress Pro uses are played back within a QuickTime wrapper, making the reference file
very small. This type of export takes little time because the media has already been
