CHAPTER 7: EFFECTS AND TRANSITIONS
Crop values range from 0 to 999, where 0 is no cropping, and 999 crops the
entire image. The Crop parameters are T, B, L, and R.
T Top of the image
B Bottom of the image
L Left side of the image
R Right side of the image
Cropping can be an exacting task, and the parameter sliders aren’t always as
precise as you might want them to be. To move the sliders in smaller increments, use
Shift-Ctrl/Shift-F when clicking and moving the sliders.
Saving Effect Templates
Every good editor has an arsenal of effects that they have saved and can drop into their
sequence. After you create an effect with elaborate keyframes and parameters, you can
save the effect as a template to be applied to other segments and Timelines. To save an
effect template, do the following:
1. Create a new bin for the template. This is optional, of course, but is a good idea
from an organizational standpoint.
2. In the Effect Editor, drag the Effect icon from the top-right corner of the window
into the bin. This saves the effect.
After you save all your keyframes and effect parameters and dragged the effect
template into the bin, you should name it. By default, the template is given the name
of the type of effect; for example, Picture In Picture or Dip To Black. Give it a descrip-
tive name.
In addition to the listing of templates in your bin, the name of any bin that con-
tains effect templates is listed at the bottom of the Effect palette, giving you direct
access to your custom effects from within the Effects palette.
Applying Effect Templates from a Bin
To maintain effects continuity, you can apply an effect template directly from a bin to
your Timeline. You can also apply a template directly from the Effect palette, much as
you would any other standard effect in Xpress Pro.
To apply an effect template from a bin, follow these steps:
1. Drag the effect template from the bin to the segment or transition in the Time-
line where it is to be applied.
2. As you drag the template into the Timeline, note that each segment and transi-
tion that it passes over is highlighted.
3. When you find the correct location in the Timeline, release the mouse. The effect
is applied.
