■ STILL GRAPHICS
So if you are using graphic files created with a graphics application, there is an
invert alpha option.
Importing Graphic Files
Avid Free DV and Xpress Pro’s advanced feature set make it easy to import files:
1. First, create a bin in which the imported files will be stored.
2. Select File > Import. The Import dialog box appears (see Figure 6.8). At the top
of the screen, you see Enable; choose Graphic Files (Windows) or Graphic
Documents (Mac). Now you can navigate to find those files on your system.
To import multiple files, Shift-click each additional file (Mac) or Ctrl-click addi-
tional files (Windows).
3. After you select the files, choose the media drive in which you want the
imported items to be stored. Xpress Pro will take each file and convert it into
media that the system can easily read.
Mixing Resolutions (Xpress Pro)
When importing graphics, you need to determine the resolution of the graphic as it is
imported. To do this, go to the Media Creation settings and select the Import tab.
There you will see the resolution options used when creating import media. You can
mix different resolutions in Xpress Pro, but not frame rates (for example, putting a
PAL video in NTSC).
Let’s say, for example, that you have a Mojo and want to import your graphics
at 1:1 uncompressed. The graphic, when keyed over a DV-25 background, will be much
more readable because it is 1:1 uncompressed. This is especially nice when doing titles
in the Title tool (which we will discuss in Chapter 7). But the artifacts associated with
a compressed image (as in DV-25) will not be present in the title, so you could poten-
tially use thin, serif-type fonts. Your only limitation is the resolution of the output itself,
which might have some issues with thin fonts or lines.
