EXPORTING
machine. This method of export goes directly from the Xpress Pro bin to the target
application. The function is called Send To. Here’s how you do it.
First, make sure that your export settings are correct. You want to export as a
QuickTime reference file, flatten tracks, and fill spaces with black. After you create the
setting, make it active, select your sequence in its bin, and then select File
> Send To.
The Send To menu appears (see Figure 6.19). You have to show Xpress Pro
where the other application exists. Choose Make New and find the application that
you want to use. You’ll probably want to enable the tracks on the Timeline and make
marks before you do this. After you find the application, Xpress Pro will export it to
wherever you choose.
The only real advantage of using Send To is that you can launch the next appli-
cation automatically from Xpress Pro. In some cases, the application will automatically
load the sent export file as well.
Exporting QuickTime Movies
Now that you know how to make reference files, it’s time to do a QuickTime movie
export. Let’s move media! (That’s a phrase that is used at Avid. I’m, umm, still waiting
on that check, guys …) A QuickTime movie export puts a QuickTime wrapper on
media files created with your codecs. Here, the number of options available is abundant.
To start, prepare your sequence, as mentioned previously. Now take a look at
the sequence in your Timeline. If you want to export only a portion of the sequence,
be sure to mark an in point and an out point. You’ll select the Use Marks option in
the Export options. If you want to export specific tracks from the sequence, make
only those tracks active. You’ll want to choose the Use Enabled Tracks option in the
Export options.
