THE TOOLSETS
Color Correction Toolset (Xpress Pro Only)
The Color Correction toolset (shown in Figure 3.5) is intended for use when working
with the Color Correction effect. The interface expands into three monitors: The center
monitor is intended to view the current clip that is being corrected; the other two mon-
itors can be used to display before and after clips for comparison while correcting col-
ors or for viewing a scene with elements similar to the corrected clip for comparison.

Below the three monitors is the correction control panel, which has a tab so that
you can correct using color wheels or sliding parameters. It’s all pretty intricate stuff to
have an entire toolset created for one effect, but color correction can get pretty elaborate.
Source/Record Editing Toolset
The Source/Record Editing toolset (shown in Figure 3.6) is my favorite one and is by
far the most commonly used. The display is set up so that it resembles a typical inter-
face, with a Source monitor on the left and a Record monitor on the right. You can load
your clips from bins and display them in the Source monitor. The clips can then be
marked and spliced or overwritten to the sequence in the Record monitor. Simple, huh?
I personally prefer Source/Record over Basic because it allows me to focus on
one source and one sequence. Although Basic lets me instantly view and manipulate
multiple sources, I find this method a bit overwhelming and occasionally lose track of
which clip I am accessing—especially when some of the clips look similar. Besides, it’s
the toolset that I learned on, and it emulates every other type of major editing system.
