Using Timecode

The Xpress Pro capture system works like any other good nonlinear editing system.

With specific information, it functions flawlessly. Without that information, however,

your capture session can be tedious and laden with issues. Timecode is a tool that is

used for numbering video frames—nothing more and nothing less. Without timecode,

reference to any specific frames is lost. Most modern DV devices use timecode, includ-

ing those that are generally classified as consumer or prosumer decks and cameras. For

DV cameras and decks, the timecode usually begins at zero hours (00:00:00:00) and

cannot be changed to a specific hour. This is unfortunate, in the sense that it would be

good to have the hour of timecode match the number of the tape (for example, Tape 1
