CHAPTER 6: IMPORTING, EXPORTING, AND DIGITAL CUT
Finish that sandwich and we’ll go over each option.
Fast Start Fast start allows your QuickTime to begin streaming on the Internet before
it is completely downloaded.
Fast Start–Compressed Header This method of preparation is actually a bit better for
Internet streaming. It works exactly the same as Fast Start, but with one major advan-
tage. The header portion of the QuickTime is compressed so that it can be read more
quickly by the Internet client. The QuickTime will not stream until the header is com-
pletely read. A smaller header allows for a faster start on the stream.
Hinted Streaming This type of preparation is for use on video servers. The file does
not begin streaming until it receives a hint track for each track of video and audio.
The hint track allows the server to divide the file into packets for more efficient Inter-
net delivery. When selecting this option, you either need to know how your video
server works or contact someone who does. The encoding, packet size, and method of
delivery will need to be chosen in later option menus.
After you select the audio and video codecs, filters, frame sizes, and Internet
options, save the QuickTime movie. It might take a while to export, depending on the
codec and the length of your sequence.
Other Movie Exports
You can also export your movie in other formats, such as DV Stream or MPEG for-
mats, when available. These formats are readable on a QuickTime Player, but are not
specifically created for QuickTime.
DV Streams come in two flavors: standard DV-25 (NTSC or PAL) and DVC
Pro (also in NTSC and PAL). When you choose to export to DVC Pro, the audio auto-
matically locks to 48 kHz, the DVC Pro standard.
