■ EXPERIMENTING WITH EFFECTS

Some existing effects can be promoted to 3D type effects. These effects are

Titles, Picture In Picture, and imported mattes. To promote them to 3D, click the 3D

button in the Effect Editor . You now can adjust these effects by choosing one of

the 3D shapes. Promoting a title or a Picture In Picture effect is important. On most high-

end, video-effect editing systems, the smooth page turn and 3D transitioning is standard

operating procedure. Without 3D promotion, Xpress Pro would have little to match

these systems.

Experimenting with Effects

Most video editors have their own arsenal of effects. You can store these templates in

a bin of favorites, then transfer that bin to a thumb drive, disk, floppy, or Zip drive.

Using previously created effects can add a lot of “wow” factor to your sessions and

impress clients.

Once you’ve built up a pretty good effects bin, be sure to copy it and take it

with you. Go into the Avid Projects folder, find the project in which you created your

effect bin, and copy it to your favorite portable storage format.

It’s hard to edit projects that have a lot of information and little eye candy, and

effects can’t always save the day. But in many cases, a solid effects arsenal can make all

the difference between a sleepy presentation and a glittering performance. And for you,

the editor, it can be a challenge to keep your material lively and your job interesting.
