With the sequence selected (either by clicking on the Timeline or the Record

monitor) select File

> Export. You can name the soon-to-be-exported QuickTime here

and then click on the Options button.

The Export Options button leads to a variety of different formats, which in turn

leads to even more specific formats. First, click the Export As pull-down menu. There

is a list of different types of media exports available on your system, everything from

OMF and AAF to the QuickTime formats. Are there any tilde keys in front of the for-

mats in your menu? The tilde (~) indicates that this export option has not been quali-

fied with Xpress Pro and is not supported by Avid. Nonetheless, the option exists, and

you can try it out as an export if you wish.

Select QuickTime Movie and take a look at more options. While you’re near the

Export As menu, be sure to select the Use Marks and/or Use Enabled Tracks options if

needed. Just below is the Save As Source option. When you save the QuickTime movie

the same as its source, you’re putting a QuickTime wrapper on Avid media. There are

two options here: to save it as source or to customize the QuickTime. If you customize

it, the Use Avid Codec button deflates, and you’re given yet another options button:

Format Options

When you customize your QuickTime export, you have a myriad of options, which pri-

marily are concerned with which QuickTime codecs will be used. There are both audio

and video codecs. Click on the Format Options button, and you will see another win-

dow, in which the current options are displayed. Here the audio and video are sepa-

rated, and there are settings that can be made. Keep in mind that this myriad o’ options

depends upon the number of codecs that your system has and is capable of using. You

also have a filter and size option for video and some streaming options if you intend to

use your QuickTime on the Internet. The streaming options can be deselected if Inter-

net use is not intended.

Video Settings

When you click the Video Settings button, a Compression Settings pull-down menu

appears, in which you can choose the QuickTime codec that best suits your needs. The
