You might think it pointless for me to write a
whole chapter about effects. When I taught classes
for Avid, I found that many editors bypassed the
Effect classes, assuming that they were simple
instructional procedures on how to drag and drop.
And yet when my phone rings, it is common for
an editor to be whining about a special effect that
he or she thinks goes beyond the Avid array. The
answer is always the same: The effects palette is
a lot more powerful than originally perceived.
